Gurgaon, Aug 31 (IANS) A drunk Haryana traffic police constable, who drove away the official vehicle of a station house officer (SHO) and injured four people in an accident, has been charged with robbery and attempt to cause death, police said Sunday.
Constable Surinder Singh, in a drunken state Saturday, drove away the official vehicle of Sadar police station SHO Vijay Kumar, and hit a man on a bicycle, a pedestrian and an auto-rickshaw carrying at least two people.
He was caught by the public after the car hit a footpath near Fazilpur Chowk.
Two critically injured people were admitted to hospital.
“The constable was deployed at Subhash Chowk near the Sadar police station and took away the police vehicle forcibly,” said SHO Vijay Kumar.
He was booked for rash driving, endangering life of people, causing hurt, causing damage to property and robbery with an attempt to cause death, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The constable was Sunday presented in a magisterial court which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
