Guwahati, April 23 (Inditop) There was tremendous excitement among voters at the polling station in the Dispur Government Higher Secondary School in the heart of Assam’s main city of Guwahati, where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur are expected to cast their votes for the parliamentary elections Thursday.

Heavy security arrangements have been made at the school, polling station number 156, for Manmohan Singh’s visit.

“I will try to cast my vote along with the prime minister…I don’t know the time but I will wait till he arrives,” said Diganta Sharma, a young voter.

Like Sharma, there are scores of voters who want to cast their votes at the same time the prime minister will exercise his franchise.

Manmohan Singh is expected to cast his vote around 11.30 am.

The prime minister, elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam, has a rented house close to the polling station.

Manmohan Singh is a tenant of former Assam Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia’s wife Hemoprova Saikia.

The prime minister had not exercised his franchise in the last elections.
