Patna, July 7 (Inditop.com) In a startling admission, the Bihar government said that in the last eight years over 2,000 children had been abducted in the state and the fate of 340 children was still not known.

According to official reports, 2,167 children were kidnapped from 2001 to 2009. Of them, 1,752 were found. As many as 75 abducted children were killed, but 340 were still missing.

This was disclosed by Bihar Water Resource Minister Bsijendra Prasad Yadav in the state assembly Tuesday.

Yadav in his reply on behalf of the state government said that there was no denying that many children were still missing. The question was raised by opposition legislators who expressed concern over missing children.

Yadav, however, downplayed the opposition charges that there was a rise in number of kidnapping cases, and said abductions for ransom were declining.

The Nitish Kumar government came to power in 2005, promising to check crime, particularly kidnappings for ransom.
