Shimla, Sep 1 (IANS) Congress leader and five-time Himachal Pradesh minister Sat Mahajan died early Saturday in New Delhi after a brief illness, family members said. He was 85.
Survived by a son and a daughter, Mahajan was ailing for some time and had undergone angioplasty at a hospital in Delhi Aug 22.
Family members said the cremation would take place in his native place Nurpur in Kangra district Sunday.
He was elected to Himachal Pradesh assembly five times in 1977, 1982, 1985, 1993 and 2003 and served as minister in the governments headed by Ram Lal Thakur and Virbhadra Singh.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996 but lost the mid-term Lok Sabha polls in 1998.
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Virbhadra Singh expressed grief over his death.
