Panaji, Dec 31 (IANS) The Goa government Wednesday hiked the value added tax (VAT) on petrol to ten percent, which would push petrol prices by Rs.5 and more. The hike will come into effect Jan 1.
Priced at Rs.52.10 per litre, Goa sells the cheapest petrol in the country. Petrol prices in Goa fell drastically after the BJP-led coalition government slashed VAT on petrol as part of a promise made in the party’s 2012 election manifesto.
Currently, petrol is cheaper than diesel in the rest of the country India, which Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has claimed in the recent past, is an anomaly which needs correction.
