New Delhi, April 20 (Inditop.com) The government Tuesday assured parliament that all possible care was being taken to ensure that the country is prepared to handle any radiation emergency arising in the public domain.

“The Department of Atomic Energy has organised forces to train frontline officers on the issues of detection and response relating to radiation incidents,” Minister of State in PMO Prithviraj Chavan said in the Rajya Sabha.

He was making a statement in response to a calling attention notice over the incidents of radiation exposure detected in a west Delhi scrap market.

Eight people were hospitalised during last week after exposure to radioactive Cobalt-60 in scrap material. Two of them are in critical condition. Thirteen others including a few policemen handling the case have been tested by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS).
