Chandigarh, April 10 (Inditop.com) Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia was Saturday urged to dismiss state Home Minister Gopal Kanda, who was caught on camera directing the police to open fire on supporters of the opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) during an agitation in Sirsa April 3.

INLD chief and former chief minister Om Parkash Chautala and other legislators met the governor and submitted a memorandum demanding Kanda’s removal.

Kanda was caught on camera shouting expletives at INLD protesters and directing policemen to open fire on them and beat them with batons during the agitation in Sirsa.

“The governor listened to our demands patiently and assured us of appropriate action. We had shown him a compact disk (CD) on a laptop in which Kanda was caught hurling abuses and manhandling INLD workers. He was telling the police to open fire at our workers,” Chautala told reporters outside the Haryana Raj Bhawan here Saturday.

He added, “We have submitted the CD and newspaper cuttings to the governor as evidence against Kanda. Such short-tempered people are not fit for democracy and he is holding one of the most important portfolios in the state. We demand his immediate dismissal from the cabinet.”

INLD had called for a strike in Sirsa, the home district of Chautala, April 3 to draw attention to the discrimination against the region by the state government.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was also on a visit to Sirsa on that day.

At some places, INLD workers even forced traders to close their shops during the strike. In the melee, Kanda’s cavalcade was attacked by INLD workers and the minister was also involved in a minor scuffle and heated arguments with the attackers.

Following this, police arrested some INLD workers and registered cases against them.

“We have also demanded the release of our workers and appealed to the governor to direct the police to register criminal cases against Kanda and his brother,” said Chautala, who was accompanied by his sons Ajay and Abhay Chautala.
