Lucknow, July 1 (IANS) Residents of Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow woke up to heavy rains Tuesday that brought down the temperature, giving much relief to the people from the hot and humid weather.

It started raining a little before 7 a.m. and continued for more than an hour. The city like other regions has been reeling under unprecedented heat wave conditions for the past one month.
The last month was the third driest June in Lucknow in the past 114 years, said Met officials, adding that the rainfall recorded in June was only 92.4 mm.
The maximum temperature went up to 46.4 degrees Celsius in June. However, the worst might be over as the monsoon has arrived in the city and most parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, according to the Met department.
Most parts of the state may witness heavy to moderate rains in the next few days and the monsoon will be in “full swing” thereafter, said an official at the regional Met Office.
