Shimla, March 1 (Inditop.com) The opposition Congress would corner the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Himachal Pradesh on the phone tapping issue during the budget session of the assembly beginning Tuesday, a party leader said here Monday.
“We have already given a call attention motion on the phone tapping issue. We want a full debate on the issue,” state Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur told Inditop.
Two audio CDs circulating since January allegedly have Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal purportedly directing Director General of Police (Vigilance) D.S. Manhas to tap the phones of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, who is now the union steel minister, and his wife Pratibha Singh. The couple was booked Aug 3, 2009, under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the case is being investigated by Manhas.
The Congress would also grill the government on issues like deteriorating law and order and its MP who was caught on camera taking cash.
A video CD released along with the audio CDs allegedly showed BJP MP Virender Kashyap accepting cash for granting permission to an educational institute in the state.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.P. Nadda said: “We are ready to face the opposition.”
The budget session, which will have 26 sittings, will conclude April 13.
