New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) Two wheeler maker Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India on Wednesday said it would close 2016 selling five million units with its new plant in Gujarat going on stream.

Launching a new 110cc motorcycle NAVI at the Auto Expo 2016 near here, the company also announced six new planned production models slated for an India launch, the company said in a statement.
“2016 will be the historic year for Honda. Led by increased capacity with fourth plant, we will cross the threshold of five million two-wheeler sales in India for the first time.
“More importantly, we are confident that Honda’s six new models led by NAVI will reinvent two wheeler mobility in India,” an official Keita Muramatsu, was quoted as saying in the statement.
“India, with its fast growing economy, is the largest two-wheeler market in the world and our Indian operation became the largest volume contributor to Honda’s global production in 2001,” Takahiro Hachigo, president, ceo and representative director, Honda Motor Company Ltd, Japan was quoted in the statement.
“Honda’s fourth two-wheeler plant in Gujarat will be ready to commence its operation soon, and our operations here in this country further deliver lots of joy and excitement,” he added.
According to officials the new motorcycle NAVI was the first 100 percent Honda research and development India model – from concept development to commercial production.
