Chandigarh, Aug 15 (IANS) A 92-year-old freedom fighter, who did not have the strength to take part in the 64th Independence Day celebrations, had an unusual visitor at his doorstep Sunday – Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Hooda made the unscheduled trip to Babu Nand Sharma’s residence in Narnaul, 300 km from here, as the latter could not attend the Independence Day celebrations in the town, where Hooda hoisted the national flag.

During his meeting with Sharma, Hooda said: ‘I am fortunate that I have got an opportunity to seek blessings of a great freedom fighter. We wish to make the country in accordance with the dreams nurtured by the freedom fighters during freedom struggle. For this, we need their guidance.’

Sharma thanked the chief minister for increasing the pension of freedom fighters and their widows.

Hooda also announced a grant of Rs.51,000 for the freedom fighter and asked district officials to look after his health.
