Chennai, April 14 (Inditop) AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha Tuesday asserted that she had no “personal ambition” to become prime minister and said she would consult the Left, the PMK, the MDMK and “other like minded parties” after the elections.
“I have no personal ambition. I want our country to prosper and take its rightful role as a superpower in the comity of nations,” Jayalalitha declared in a rare interview to television channel TimesNow.
On whether her party was open to post poll alliances, Jayalalitha said: “A good politician… does not rule out anything. It is too premature to talk of post-poll alliances. But what we are working towards to is a non-Congress and non-BJP led government at the centre.”
“It only stands to reason after the poll results are out we will consult the Left parties, PMK, MDMK and other like minded parties.”
Exuding confidence, the AIADMK leader said the alliance struck with the PMK and the MDMK would sweep the polls.
In the 2004 elections, the AIADMK could not win even one of Tamil Nadu’s 39 Lok Sabha seats.
Discussing the Sri Lankan conflict, Jayalalitha said the central and the state governments had failed miserably to handle the ethnic violence and stop the killing of Tamils in the island nation.
“There is a strong feeling that there should be an end to the war.”
Jayalalitha said people of Tamil origin in Sri Lanka continued to face hardships.
Reacting to comments made by MDMK leader Vaiko on the violence in Sri Lanka, she said: “He has said nothing new as far he is concerned. Even when his party was in alliance with the Congress earlier, he had taken a similar stand then. We have to take it (Vaiko’s comments) on face value.”
“Vaiko has done nothing which threatens the integrity of the country.”
