Agartala, Aug 9 (IANS) ‘I have no relation with the Trinamool Congress (TMC),’ singer-turned-parliamentarian Suman Chattopadhyay said here Monday.

‘I have no party. If I could leave the membership of Lok Sabha, I would be the happiest person,’ Chattopadhyay, who is now known as Kabir Suman, told reporters in Agartala. He is an MP of the Trinamool Congress.

He said : ‘In India, 32 percent people either get to eat one meal a day or remain hungry. In every hour one farmer commits suicide.’

Claiming himself to be a Marxist, the 62-year-old MP said : ‘The Left Front in West Bengal did not use me because I was not a sycophant or slave of any party.’

Suman Chattopadhyay came to Agartala Sunday to perform songs at a cultural function here.

Suman changed the face of modern Bengali music in the 1990s with the ‘jeebonmukhi’ (human friendly) songs, writing and singing about people and their lives.
