Ranchi, Nov 1 (Inditop.com) The Income Tax Department raided houses and offices of two mediapersons and personal secretaries of former Jharkhand chief ministers Shibu Soren and Madhu Koda against whom a disproportionate assets charge was being probed, an official said Sunday.

The IT department and the Enforcement Directorate jointly raided houses of personal secretaries Harendra Singh of Madhu Koda and M.N. Pal of Shibu Soren Saturday.

Also, raids were conducted at houses of mediapersons Arup Chatterji and Prem Shyankaran.

“The raids were conducted at houses and offices of Arup Chatterji and Prem Shyankaran. Arup was till last month reporter with Sahara News channel. He is planning to open a news channel. Prem is a contractor who started a Hindi newspaper,” Income Tax Director (Investigation) Ujjwal Chaudhary said.

According to officials, IT sleuths were ascertaining the source of income of the proposed news channel of Arup.

The IT department, which was probing a disproportionate assets charge against Madhu Koda, conducted raids in eight Indian cities at 70 places of the former chief minister and his associates. The sleuths found documents relating to illegal transaction of Rs.2,000 crore.

Properties of Vinod Sinha and Sanjay Chaudhary – close associates of Madhu Koda – were also raided.

“We are going through the documents seized from these people. We will say anything only after analysing the documents,” an IT official told Inditop.
