New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party legislators from Jammu and Kashmir met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here Thursday to convey their concern about the prevailing situation in the state.
Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha S.S. Ahluwalia of the BJP told IANS that 10 of the 11 party legislators in the state were present at the meeting in which they gave a memorandum to the prime minister.
He said senior party leaders L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley were also present.
BJP sources said the legislators told the prime minister that the Omar Abdullah government had failed to control the situation created by elements inimical to peace in the state.
The BJP leaders said elements who were provoking people to hurl stones at security forces should be identified and punished, the sources added.
The recurring violence in the Kashmir Valley has led to 47 casualties since June 11.
Congress leaders from the state have also met the prime minister to convey their concern about the situation. The Congress is in a coalition government in the state along with the National Conference.
