Ranchi, Aug 2 (Inditop.com) The Bharatiya Janata Party demanded a special package from the central government Sunday, a day after Jharkhand was declared drought-hit.

“All districts of Jharkhand have been declared as drought-affected areas. The union government should announce a special package for the state. The condition of farmers is pathetic and the new governor is trying to fool all by making false announcements,” state BJP president Raghubar Das told reporters here.

“Jharkhand is under president’s rule and there are no serious efforts made by the state machinery to deal with the situation and ensure relief to people. Jharkhand Governor K. Shankarnarayan is trying to fool people by making tall promises instead of ensuring relief to them,” he said.

The Jharkhand government Saturday declared all 24 districts of the state as drought-hit. Shankarnarayan has said that about 12,500 new Public Distribution Shops would be opened.

“The governor is making false promises. He should ensure that the food grains reach the poor people at the earliest at fair prices. In Ranchi alone, 120 PDS shops have been closed in absence of food grains. The state has been declared as drought-hit but where is the money to start relief work,” asked Das.

He said only assembly elections at the earliest can address the problems of the people.

The paddy crop has been damaged as the state received only 20 to 30 percent rainfall this year.

Meanwhile, BJP will launch a Save Jharkhand Yatra Sep 1-25. “During the yatra, we will make people aware as to how they have been betrayed by the UPA government and during president’s rule,” said Das.
