Ranchi, Sep 3 (IANS) The Jharkhand assembly Saturday passed a bill raising salaries of legislators and ministers – the fourth hike in the last ten years.
With the hike, a legislator in Jharkhand will get more than Rs.70,000 per month againt Rs.29,000 at present, while ministers will get more than Rs.90,000 per month against the present sum of Rs.40,000 per month. The chief minister will get nearly Rs.1 lakh per month.
The salary includes basic pay, travelling allowance, miscellaneous expenses and other allowances. Besides the salary, each legislator will enjoy free telephone facilities up to Rs.1 lakh, free railway ticket up to Rs.1.50 lakh fare, air tickets and other facilities.
Each legislator also gets Rs.3 crore per annum under Local Area Development Fund.
The assembly also passed the bill to accord second language status to 11 languages – Bengali, Oriya and nine tribal dialects of the state.
