New Delhi, July 16 (Inditop.com) The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day and the Lok Sabha for the third time Thursday following chaos over the arrest of Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and the arson attack on her house by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers.

The Rajya Sabha was first adjourned almost as soon as it had convened. When it reconvened, MPs from Uttar Pradesh’s ruling BSP started shouting slogans, forcing Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan to adjourn the house for the day.

The Lok Sabha convened for the third time at noon but the MPs for and against the action taken by the Uttar Pradesh governmenmt continued to shout slogans and refused to take their seats.

Speaker Meira Kumar tried to continue the proceedings but could not, due to constant disruptions from members. BSP MPs came into the well of the house demanding discussion over the alleged derogatory remarks made by Joshi about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

Meira Kumar was forced to adjourn the house. The Lok Sabha proceedings will now resume at 2.00 p.m.

Joshi was arrested after midnight Wednesday in Ghaziabad for having allegedly made derogatory remarks about Mayawati. Around the same time, her house in Lucknow came under attack from BSP supporters.

Joshi was Thursday sent to judicial custody for 14 days in Moradabad.
