Kolkata, Jan 15 (Inditop.com) Veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu’s health condition remained critical Friday and the oxygen requirement for his body also increased, a medical bulletin released by the AMRI Hospital said.
“His condition is critical and he has been put on ventilator support. There has been no further deterioration in his cardiac and renal functioning system. It remains exactly what it was yesterday (Thursday),” the medical bulletin said.
“The doctors will also conduct a dialysis on him in the evening today (Friday),” it said, adding the oxygen requirement for Basu’s body has gone up.
According to the report, Basu’s kidney functioning had got little support after he was put on dialysis Thursday evening.
“The doctors are constantly monitoring the 95-year-old leader. The medical board will again meet at 7 p.m. today to review Basu’s health condition. The next bulletin will be released at around 8 p.m.,” the medical report added.
The nonagenarian Communist icon was hospitalised after a pneumonia attack and admitted in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) of a Salt Lake-based private hospital Jan 1.
Born 1914 in Kolkata, Basu became chief minister of West Bengal in June 1977. He stepped down voluntarily on health grounds in November 2000.
