Lucknow, April 17 (Inditop.com) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel and founder of the Jan Kranti Party (JKP) Kalyan Singh Saturday said his party was in favour of the women’s reservation bill but not in its present form and urged that it be amended.
“The bill in its present form will help a limited number of people. It is not in the interest of women belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and economically weak sections,” Singh told reporters in Jaunpur district, some 250-km from Lucknow.
The bill promises 33 percent quota to women in the Lok Sabha and the state legislatures. It was passed in the Rajya Sabha before parliament went into a recess.
“The bill should be amended and should have provisions for a separate quota for women from Dalit, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes and financially weaker sections,” said Singh, a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
Ruling out his return to the BJP, Singh said: “There’s just no question about it. It cannot happen as BJP has deviated from its ideology.”
In reply to a question, Singh said his party would extend all possible help in constructing a Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
“Construction of the temple would take place under the auspices of saints and our party would fully support them for the purpose,” he said.
