Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 26 (Inditop.com) Kerala Governor R.S. Gavai in his Republic Day message Tuesday asked the state government to ensure “unabated” violence against women is curbed.
Gavai was presiding over the 61st Republic Day function where he took salute at an impressive parade here Tuesday morning.
“Our country has the tradition of respecting women. However harassment of women at work place and domestic violence continue unabated. The institutional mechanism has to become more responsible to tackle this,” the governor said.
With rising prices of essential commodities on his mind, Gavai said inflation has affected common people and the state government has taken steps to tackle it.
Unemployment, he said, is a major problem. “The higher education should be on par with the global standards and for this we all should work together to tackle the huge unemployment and for that our children should be groomed in the proper manner.”
He expressed grief over the tragedies that occurred in the state in the past one year including the Thekkady boat capsize.
“Disaster management has to be modernized to prevent loss of lives and property,” said Gavai.
The governor said terror activities in the state would hinder development activities.
He also called upon the scientific community to come up with measures to tackle climate change, which he described as a growing concern in the world.
Republic Day parades were held at all 13 district headquarters in the state.
