New Delhi, Jan 18 (Inditop.com) Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath Monday said that soon there would be a legislation to check the practice of witch hunting, especially against tribal women.
“I am aware of the problem where there is violence against tribal women in the name of witch hunting. Women are just victimised in the name of witch hunting. It is done to grab their land,” Tirath told reporters here.
She was speaking at the 10th Editors Conference on social sector issues.
“There should be a separate law to address this issue. I will write to the law ministry (on this issue),” Tirath said while replying to a question about what steps the government was taking to protect women against witch hunting, particularly in tribal areas.
