New Delhi, June 1 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Tuesday said Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s skipping a cabinet meeting on Jharkhand showed her ‘irresponsible nature’.
CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury said the Trinamool Congress chief was a minister of the entire country and not of any particular constituency or state.
Criticising Banerjee for justifying her absence from the cabinet meeting on the plea that it was a simple meeting on Jharkhand, Yechury said being a cabinet minister she should be concerned with India as a whole and not only with the state or constituency which she represents.
He said Banerjee’s reaction that Jharkhand is a small issue ‘is very, very insulting and belittling’.
‘It shows the irresponsible nature of the minister,’ he said.
The cabinet meeting was held here Tuesday to discuss imposing president’s rule in Jharkhand.
Yechury said the cabinet functions on collective responsibility.
‘It is for the prime minister to explain why Mamata did not attend the cabinet meeting,’ Yechury said.
