Kollam (Kerala), Dec 19 (Inditop.com) People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nazir Maudany, whose wife Sufiya has been jailed in a 2005 bus burning case, Saturday said he and his family would go on an indefinite fast from Dec 25 to press for her release.
Maudany said Sufiya was jailed because of a conspiracy hatched by a few police officials and politicians.
Maudany, flanked by his two sons and other family members, while speaking to reporters here, also refuted media reports that Sufiya had confessed to her involvement in the crime.
“This is absolutely baseless and planted story by those behind the conspiracy. Her counsel today (Saturday) met her in the jail and she has not siad anything like that,” he said.
“This is nothing but a conspiracy. And I have everything to prove that this is one big conspiracy targeted against us. In order to put an end to this I have decided that from next Friday onwards we have decided to go on an indefinite fast here,” Maudany said.
A court Friday sent Sufiya to 14 days in judicial custody. The first accused in the case is T. Nazeer, described as the south India chief of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who is also in custody.
