New Delhi, May 4 (Inditop.com) The number of people killed in road accidents on national highways in India came down marginally between 2006-08, the Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.

Minister of State for Road Transport Mahadeo Singh Khandela informed the Lok Sabha that the number of people killed in 2006 in the country was 140,158. The number came down to 138,922 in 2008.

In 2008, 7,682 people died in accidents involving vehicles whose drivers had consumed alcohol. Accidents involving vehicles which exceeded speed limit caused 59,246 deaths, he said.
