New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said that most charges of corruption levelled against his government relate to the UPA-I period.
Answering a query at his press conference here that his image as “Mr Clean” had been dented due to allegations of wrongdoing against his government, the prime minister said that the issues had been raised by the media from time to time as also by the Comptroller and Auditor General and courts.
“As far as charges of corruption are concerned, most of these relate to period of UPA-I (United Progressive Alliance),” the prime minister said referring to allegations concerning the coal block allocation and 2G spectrum allocation.
He said that UPA-I government had gone to people on the basis of its performance and and people had given their mandate to govern for another five years.
“We must not forget (the corruption charges) belong to period not of UPA-II,” the prime minister said.
Manmohan Singh has led the Congress-led UPA-I government (2004-09) and the UPA-II government.
