The National Commission for Women may be in for a change of guard as incumbent Girija Vyas is finding it difficult to give her wholehearted attention to its functioning since she was elected as MP from Rajasthan.
First, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) MP Brinda Karat shot off a letter to the prime minister saying there was a crying need for a full-time chairperson. Now, members of the panel have begun a whisper campaign. Vyas, who has held this post since 2005, comes infrequently to work and has not been on any major delegation visits in the last few months.
