Shimla, Nov 30 (IANS) Voter turnout of over 75 percent was registered in two assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh where by-elections were held Wednesday.

‘There is no report of any major violence in both Renuka and Nalagarh constituencies,’ state Chief Electoral Officer Narinder Chauhan told IANS here Wednesday.

He said polling was around 75 percent in Renuka (Reserved) and 80 percent in Nalagarh till 4 p.m. In the 2007 assembly elections, the Renuka constituency saw 75 percent polling, while 82 percent votes were cast in Nalagarh.

Voting began on a dull note due to cold in the first few hours, but picked up gradually as the day progressed.

The main contest is between the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
