New Delhi, July 8 (IANS) The tribal affairs ministry is contemplating setting up a separate council for consultation on issues related to tribal communities, an official said Thursday.

According to officials, at a recent meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Tribal Affairs Minister Kanti Lal Bhuria proposed the setting up of a National Tribal Consultant Council.

The minister said the council could be under the chairmanship of the prime minister.

‘The minister has proposed that the council should include representatives and experts from other ministries like home, agriculture, environment and forests, women and child development, youth affairs and sports, health and family affairs and human resource development,’ an official said.

‘The council will help make more tribal-friendly policies,’ he added. Its mandate will also include review of the existing schemes.
