Ranchi, June 21 (IANS) A petition was filed in the Jharkhand High Court Tuesday seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the assets of former chief minister and chairman of ruling alliance steering committee Shibu Soren and his son and Deputy Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by Durga Oraon in whose earlier plea last year the high court took cognisance and ordered a CBI probe against former chief minister Madhu Koda and five former ministers, exposing the multi-crore rupee money laundering scam in 2009.
‘The PIL seeks CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) probes in the assets amassed by Shibu Soren and his son,’ Rajiv Kumar, lawyer of Oraon, told IANS.
‘Manohar Lal Pal, personal secretary of Shibu Soren, admitted before the Income Tax (IT) department that he had amassed assets of Rs.68 crore,’ the petition said, raising doubts about the former chief minister’s hand behind the illegal wealth of Pal.
