New Delhi, April 22 (Inditop) The Election Commission Wednesday said it would examine a complaint against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
Mahesh Jethmalani, a noted lawyer and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate from Mumbai North Central, alleged in his complaint that the prime minister tried to bribe the Muslim community with his comments that the poor among the minorities have the first right over the country’s resources.
“Mahesh Jethmalani’s complaint against the prime minister has been received. The commission is awaiting the DVD containing the speech of the prime minister from the poll officer,” Deputy Election Commissioner J.P. Prakash said here.
“The Commission would look into it (the complaint),” he said.
The prime minister allegedly made the comments during a press conference in Mumbai April 13.
