Chandigarh, April 15 (Inditop) Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal Wednesday hit back at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi for saying that the benefits of various schemes, launched by central government for poor people, were not reaching the people of Punjab because of widespread corruption in the state.

“Rahul Gandhi himself does not know anything about the NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) or any such scheme, so how can he give such statements? He is very far away from the ground reality of the situation. He is just speaking whatever is given to him written on paper,” Badal, also the Punjab deputy chief minister, told reporters here Wednesday.

“Our government has launched many schemes for the marginalised sections of the society and they are also satisfied with our policies. We are working for an all round development of the state and have our future aims clear in mind,” he added.

Gandhi Tuesday said that the benefits of several schemes launched by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government were not reaching the people of Punjab because of corruption in the state.

Talking about the implementation of Sixth Pay Commission in the state, Badal said: “We are not stopping anybody from implementing the Sixth Pay Commission in the state and our government has already given its clearance for its execution. Now it all depends on the Election Commission to decide its future.”
