Kolkata, May 31 (IANS) West Bengal, reeling under hot and humid conditions, was set to get some relief with the weather office on Sunday forecasting rain and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

“Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in Gangetic plains. The northern districts of Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri are also expected to get rain in the next 24 hours,” a Met official said.
While the temperature in the city hovered around 35 degrees Celsius, Bankura in the south-western part of the state registered the maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius during the day.
Over a dozen people have succumbed to the intense heat wave sweeping across the state during the past few days.
