Chandigarh, Aug 29 (IANS) Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh Sunday slammed union Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his remarks on ‘saffron terorrism’ and accused him of belittling the revered status of the colour in Indian culture.

‘Saffron is a colour of devotion, dedication, sacrifice and holds a very respectful position in our country. But indifferent to all this, our Home Minister P. Chidambaram had used the remark of ‘saffron terrorism’ during his recent meeting with the DGPs (director generals of police) of all states,’ Rajnath Singh told reporters.

‘It is really sad that Chidambaram has associated saffron colour with terrorism. Our national flag, the tricolour, has this colour, our saints, mahatmas also wear this colour. Now Chidambaram is trying to place all of them in the category of terrorists.’

Singh also demanded the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this matter.

In his speech Wednesday at the meeting of state police chiefs, Chidambaram cautioned security and intelligence officials against the continuing attempts of militants to infiltrate into India as well as the recently uncovered phenomenon of ‘saffron terrorism’.
