Lucknow, April 9 (Inditop) Congress’ Uttar Pradesh unit chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi Thursday filed her nomination from the Lucknow parliamentary constituency as the party candidate.
“I am confident of a record win and am here to save the legacy and culture of Lucknow,” Joshi said before leaving the party’s headquarters to file her nomination papers at around 11 a.m.
The Congress announced her candidature Tuesday – two days after the Samajwadi Party pitted Nafisa Ali, an actress-turned-social activist who was close to the Congress, as its candidate for the Lucknow seat.
Joshi said that she was banking on the mixed population of this state capital to win.
“The city comprises middle-class people and intellectuals and is also a mix of diversified culture just like my native place Allahabad. Lucknow has also been the ‘karmabhoomi’ of my father, late Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, who was Uttar Pradesh chief minister,” she said in a press conference Wednesday.
