New Delhi, April 29 (Inditop.com) The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Prithvi Raj Sawhney is likely to be elected the next Delhi mayor with elections to the posts of mayor and deputy mayor to be held Friday.

The BJP has an overwhelming majority in the 272-member Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Sawhney, a former teacher and MCD’s education committee chairman, faces Tulsi Ram Sablania of the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Hari Chand Kardam.

The contest for the deputy mayor will be between the BJP’s Rajesh Gehlot, Saranjit Sharma of Congress and the BSP’s Sanjay Gupta.

The BJP has 172 members, the Congress 73 and BSP 16. Independents number 10. However, the selection of one BJP member has been declared void by the high court.
