Lucknow, April 23 (Inditop) Polling for the second of the five-phase Lok Sabha election began in Uttar Pradesh Thursday morning.

Polling booths in the 17 seats opened at 7 a.m. In all, the state has 80 Lok Sabha constituencies.

However, a slow turnout was reported in the early hours from almost all the constituencies due to the scorching heat.

Officials said sporadic incidents of malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were reported from some constituencies, including Amethi and Domariyaganj.

According to election commission statistics, nearly 25 million people are eligible to exercise their franchise in the second phase.
