Mumbai, Feb 20 (Inditop.com) Senior Shiv Sena leader and two-time MP Madhukar Sarpotdar, who was convicted for making hate speeches during 1993 Mumbai riots, died here Saturday after a cardiac arrest. He was 77.

According to a party office bearer, he had been admitted to Hinduja Hospital four days ago following severe chest pain and died Saturday afternoon.

Sarpotdar was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Mumbai North-West constituency, once represented by the late actor-politician Sunil Dutt and now by his daughter Priya Dutt.

Sarpotdar’s son Atul is a senior leader with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena floated by Raj Thackeray, the estranged nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

Senior Shiv Sena leaders besides legislators and parliamentarians have started arriving at the Hinduja Hospital to pay tribute to the departed leader.
