Mumbai, Dec 30 (IANS) Aditya Thackeray-led Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS), the students wing of Shiv Sena, Thursday won eight out of 10 seats at the Mumbai University Senate elections.
The BVS won all five seats in the reserved category and three out of five seats in the general category.
‘This is Aditya’s first election and a major victory of his leadership. It is for the first time that any single political party has bagged eight seats in the senate – an important decision making body of the university,’ BVS president Abhijit Panse said.
The student body of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena – Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS)- won the other two seats.
Earlier this year, Aditya, Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s grandson, forced the Mumbai University to drop Rohinton Mistry’s Booker-nominated novel ‘Such A Long Journey’ from its syllabus as he said the book used ‘foul language against many things that we, in Mumbai, hold close to our hearts’.
