Lucknow, Nov 3 (IANS) Six Samajwadi Party (SP) candidates Monday filed their nomination papers in Uttar Pradesh for the Rajya Sabha polls later this month.

Tanzeem Fatima, wife of state Urban Development Minister Mohammad Azam Khan, was amont those who filed their nomination papers in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The other candidates include party general secretary and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s cousin Ram Gopal Yadav, former prime minister Chandrashekhar’s son Neeraj Shekhar, Chandrapal Yadav, Ravi Verma, and Javed Ali.
On the basis of the party’s strength in the state assembly, all six candidates will sail through the polls for ten seats. Bharatiya Janata Party will get through one candidate while the Bahujan Samaj Party is likely to get two candidates.
Congress leader Kapil Sibal is seeking SP’s support for entry into the upper house. Having lost the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Chandni Chowk, Sibal is likely to get the party’s support, sources said.
Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh is also lobbying for SP’s support. Voting will take place Nov 20 for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh.
