New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi had reached out to BJP leader Sushma Swaraj in an attempt to find a solution to the logjam in parliament over the coal blocks allocation issue.
According to informed sources in Bharatiya Janata Party, Gandhi called up Swaraj, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Thursday.
Swaraj told her that BJP would maintain its stand on the issue, the sources said.
The BJP has not allowed parliament to function during the past two weeks.
The party is demanding Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation and cancellation of coal blocks licences after a Comptroller and Auditor General’s report said that private players had windfall gains to the tune of Rs.1.85 lakh crore from the allocation made by the UPA government.
The government has rejected both the demands.
Gandhi attacked the BJP for politicising the issue and not allowing parliament to debate on it.
With both sides not ready to budge from their respective positions, there is little hope that the logjam would end before the monsoon session of parliament ends Sep 7, sources said.
