Lucknow, May 20 (Inditop.com) Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi are only interested in developmental schemes in their parliamentary constituencies, not the all-round development of Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) state chief Thursday said.
“Though they (Sonia and Rahul) pretend to be serious about development of entire Uttar Pradesh, the reality is that for both of them, the development is confined to their constituencies – Rae Bareli and Amethi – only,” the party’s newly-appointed state unit chief Surya Pratap Shahi said in his first press conference here after taking over the post.
“Both the mother-son duo shed crocodile tears when they talk about backwardness and poor development in the state, but believe me, they are actually not concerned about the varied problems plaguing the state. While Rahul wants to develop his constituency Amethi, Soniaji thinks of only Rae Bareli,” he claimed.
Referring to the recent visit of the software czar Bill Gates to Amethi and Rae Bareli, Shahi said: “When it came to show poverty in villages to Microsoft chief Bill Gates, Rahul took him to Amethi and Rae Bareli.”
“I want to ask whether the poverty is only in the villages of Amethi and Rae Bareli… Why was he (Gates) not taken to other villages in Kushinagar, Sonbhadra, Maharajganj and other eastern districts of the state where people commit suicide due to penury, die of starvation and do not even have access to basic amenities,” he said.
Shahi also accused the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) of conniving with the Congress for their vested interests.
“Tacit understanding among the BSP, the SP and the Congress came to the fore in parliament when the BSP and SP did not support us over the cut motions moved against the Congress-led central government,” he said.
If the BSP and SP were serious about fighting the anti-people policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, they would not have bailed out the government, he added.
