Chennai, April 8 (Inditop.com) A day after AIADMK members were suspended for two days for creating a ruckus in the house, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker R. Avudaiyappan reduced their suspension period to one day and allowed the members to participate in the proceedings Friday.
All the AIADMK members, barring party leader J. Jayalalithaa, were suspended for two days Wednesday.
Moving the resolution to reduce the suspension to one day, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said Thursday: “Several members like Sivapuniam (Communist Party of India) have expressed their opinion on the issue of suspension to me.”
He requested Speaker Avudaiyappan to relax the suspension order to one day so that it serves as a warning to members.
The issue came up Wednesday when DMK member Anita Radhakrishnan said he was not allowed to perform his public duties when he was with the AIADMK earlier.
Reacting to that charge, AIADMK’s K.A. Sengottaiyan made some remarks that were expunged by the speaker.
Angered at this, AIADMK members G. Hari and Arulmozhithevan started shouting, which led to the speaker ordering their eviction.
The remaining AIADMK members, thereafter, rushed to the well of the house where they tried to stage a ‘dharna’ (sit-in).
Finally, the speaker ordered the marshals to evict the protesting AIADMK members.
Later, Finance Minister and Leader of the House K. Anbazhagan moved a resolution seeking two-day suspension of the AIADMK members who had disrupted the proceedings. It was passed by voice vote.
