New Delhi, Sep 29 (Inditop.com) A Congress MP from Andhra Pradesh Tuesday called upon Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to ask his supporters to stop “malicious campaign” against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, days after the chorus from state party leaders to name Reddy chief minister.
Congress MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi asked Jaganmohan Reddy, the son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, that his supporters should put a halt to their campaign for him to succeed his father.
“It will hurt your (Jagmohan’s) own political career. You should condemn the act by your supporters and tell them to stop this kind of malicious campaign against Sonia Gandhi and the high command,” Yaskhi, an MP from Nizamabad, told Inditop on phone from Hyderabad as having said to Jaganmohan Reddy.
Yaskhi’s reaction came in the wake of an incident in the party’s Khammam district office where some people, claiming to be Jagan’s followers, tore a banner carrying the picture of Sonia Gandhi.
“Tearing the poster of Sonia Gandhi, a great leader who sacrificed even the prime minister’s post, cannot be tolerated,” Yaskhi said.
Jaganmohan Reddy represents Kadappa constituency in Lok Sabha.
Yaskhi rejected the claim by Jagan’s supporters that the spectacular victory of the party in the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were because of his father’s campaign.
“It was because of a positive vote for the works done under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
Yaskhi alleged that there were some leaders who were instigating the “anti-high command activities” in the state.
“Jagan should tell them that they will have to face serious consequences, if they don’t stop such activities,” Yaskhi said.
After Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy died in a chopper crash Sep 2, the Congress had asked state Finance Minister K. Rosaiah to take over the reins of the government and all the ministers took oath of office afresh.
It was then that the demand to make Jagan the chief minister started and is continuing.
