New Delhi, April 27 (Inditop.com) The Congress said the government will face no problem in getting its financial agenda passed in the Lok Sabha Tuesday when opposition parties plan to move cut motions on the budget proposals.
“The support of UPA (United Progressive Alliance) allies is intact,” Congress MP Jagdambika Pal told Inditop.
He said the Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janta Dal, which had extended outside support to the government when it was formed, had not issued whips to their members to vote against the UPA alliance.
SP and RJD are members of a 13-party grouping that has decided to bring cut motions against the government on demands for grants related to chemicals and fertilizer ministries and petroleum ministries to be taken up Tuesday.
These parties, which include the Left, have demanded a rollback of prices of urea, petrol and diesel. The Left is keen to move the cut motions.
The Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies have also decided to move cut motions.
The Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to back the government.
Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said the cut motions would be defeated decisively.
“There is no problem. The cut motions will be decisively defeated. The government will fulfil its mandate to rule for five years,” he said.
He criticised the opposition for forcing adjournments of the two houses of parliament.
The opposition, he said, was treating parliament like “a bull-fighting ring” rather than a forum of serious debate. “This undermines the faith of the people in parliament as a democratic institution.”
