New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS) The formation of Telangana rocked both houses of parliament Thursday, forcing several adjournments – and finally for the day.
The Lok Sabha initially lost the question hour due to disruptions, being adjourned till 12 noon.When it reassembled, members from Andhra Pradesh again raised slogans, following which the Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house for the day.
In Rajya Sabha also, question hour was lost due to protests, with the house being adjourned within minutes of meeting.
When the house met at 12 noon, members from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) went near the chairman’s podium, raising “save Andhra Pradesh” slogans.
Members from the DMK and the AIADMK demanded steps to protect Tamil fishermen being targeted by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Samajwadi Party members demanded the dismissal of Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma for attempting to “buy off” journalists.
Amid the din, Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurein adjourned the house till 2 p.m.
The scene was same in the upper house at 2 p.m., when it saw its third and final adjournment for the day.
No business could be transacted except for the routine tabling of papers.
