Hyderabad, Feb 1 (Inditop.com) Congress leaders from Telangana Monday said they would take a decision on their continuance in all-party Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed to agitate for a separate Telangana state, only after the central government forms a committee on the issue.

A day after the central leadership directed party leaders to disassociate themselves from the JAC, state leaders Monday held a meeting here to take a decision on the issue.

Senior legislator K. Jana Reddy told reporters, after the meeting, that a decision would be taken only after the central government constitutes a committee on Telangana issue.

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday told reporters in Delhi that a committee on Telangana would be constituted this week.

“After the centre constitutes the committee, we will have another meeting and discuss all related issues like terms of reference before taking a decision on our continuance in the JAC,” Jana Reddy said.

Congress general secretary M. Veerappa Moily Sunday issued an ultimatum to party leaders in the state to disassociate themselves from the JAC. Moily warned them of serious consequences if party discipline was not maintained.

Party MP from Telangana Ponnam Prabhakar, however, said Moily’s statement is for the party leaders from Andhra who have joined JAC to oppose formation of Telangana state.

He claimed that Telangana JAC never criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Congress MPs from Telangana have decided to once again visit Delhi to lobby for immediately initiating the process for statehood to Telangana.
