Hyderabad, Dec 29 (Inditop.com) Telangana leaders cut across party lines Tuesday in condemning former Andhra Pradesh governor N.D. Tiwari who had accused people associated with the Telangana statehood agitation of having framed him in an alleged sex scandal.
Leaders of Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) rubbished Tiwari’s claim and said they suspected a political conspiracy behind his allegations.
Tiwari resigned on “health grounds” Saturday, a day after a Telugu channel showed pictures of a man, purported to be Tiwari, in compromising position with three women in Raj Bhavan.
He claimed Monday that people associated with the Telangana movement hatched a conspiracy against him as he refused to entertain their request to be allowed to meet President Pratibha Patil during her proposed visit to Hyderabad.
Tiwari, 86, denied the allegations against him and claimed a conspiracy behind the same after he reached Dehradun Monday.
His claim evoked sharp reaction from Congress party leaders of Telangana. “Mr. Tiwari’s allegations are baseless. We will not stoop to such level to frame him for an appointment with the president,” Congress MP and convenor of party MPs forum P. Prabhakar said.
He said he suspected a political conspiracy behind Tiwari’s allegations to damage the Telangana movement.
TDP leaders fighting for Telangana state said no leader from the region sought Tiwari’s recommendation for an appointment with the president.
TRS leaders also condemned the former governor’s claim. “Mr. Tiwari has made baseless allegations. Why would anyone approach him for an appointment with the president,” asked TRS leader and former MP B. Vinod Kumar.
