Kolkata, July 23 (IANS) After routing the Marxists in West Bengal, the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress plans to launch mass movements in Tripura too with an aim to oust the Left Front from power in their last bastion.
‘No development has taken place in Tripura under the Left regime of the state. There are only two medical colleges in that state. Unemployment is at its peak. Lot of financial irregularities are taking place,’ Trinamool general secretary Mukul Roy said at a media meet here Saturday.
The Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance crushed the mighty Left Front led by Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M), ending its 34-year uninterrupted rule in the April-May assembly elections in West Bengal.
‘We have received several requests from the people of Tripura who have asked our leader Mamata Banerjee to take the initiative and save the people of Tripura from the clutches of the CPI-M, as she has done in Bengal,’ said Roy.
‘Responding to that call, the Tripura unit of the Trinamool Congress will organise a mammoth rally in Tripura Aug 20, and from there only we will announce our future plans and movement,’ he said.
Asked whether the Trinamool will forge an alliance with the Congress in Tripura too, Roy replied: ‘We will welcome an alliance with the Congress there as our main aim is to oust the CPI-M from Tripura. If needed, we will also forge alliance with the regional parties of Tripura.’
