Mumbai, Aug 27 (IANS) Reacting sharply to Home Minister P.Chidambaram’s remarks on ‘saffron terrorism’, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray demanded his resignation from the cabinet.

Speaking to newspersons here Friday afternoon, Thackeray said that a person who does not understand the true colours of terror must not remain in the cabinet. ‘Chidambaram should resign for making such remarks,’ he demanded.

He also urged the Congress to make its stance clear on the entire issue of the ‘saffron terrorism’ referred to by Chidambaram.

Discussing the ‘new phenomenon of saffron terrorism,’ Chidambaram has said that its involvement has been uncovered in many bomb blasts in the country.

Chidambaram’s comments were in the backdrop of investigators unearthing links with Hindu extremist groups in at least five major bomb explosions in recent times across the country.

These include bomb blasts at Ajmer in Rajasthan, Goa, Mecca Mosque in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, Malegaon in Maharashtra and Modasa in Gujarat.
